Will aches come back after stopping plaquenil

In Sjögren’s, Plaquenil is used to treat many symptoms of Sjögren’s including fatigue, joint symptoms of arthritis and arthralgias (joint pain), dry mouth and dry eyes. Similar to its use in systemic lupus erythematosus, many clinicians feel that it is useful in reducing general Sjögren’s “disease activity.” One of the reasons that physicians feel comfortable in prescribing Plaquenil is its low risk to benefit ratio.

I’ve been on plaquenil for over 20 years and just stopped taking it. I don’t think it has ever helped. I have tested negative on my ANA tests for the last 3 Year’s. Weird because I still have all the pain, plus terrible neuropathy due to autoimmune issues. I can't believe you were told to stop taking plaquenil after only 6 months since it can take up to one YEAR to achieve full benefits! I don't know much about any sort of withdrawal but if I were you I'd start taking it again. I'd also have your thyroid checked. I'm hypothyroid and take levo along with he plaquenil. I recently decided to stop taking Plaquenil because I was having constant chest pains even more so than I usually have due to Lupus. Since I have not taken it my chest feels so much better which is odd because chest pain is not listed as a side effect.

As with any medication, allergic reactions including skin rashes and non-allergic reactions can occur. This means that the side effects of Plaquenil are mild and infrequent compared with its potential benefits.

  5. SIDE EFFECTS. The following adverse reactions have been identified during post-approval use of PLAQUENIL or other 4-aminoqunoline compounds. Because these reactions are reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not always possible to reliably estimate their frequency or establish a causal relationship to drug exposure.

Also, they're both toxic. I'm now in the middle of taking MRI's of different joints and more blood work from my rheumy. The internest said he wants to wait until all the tests come back and he'll speak with my rhuemy and they will decide what to do about the Plaquenil. At this point, I'm so worried about the INH and not worried about the Plaquenil. Within a week most of them said that their symptoms came back with a vengence. They pretty much all restarted the drug and said they would stay on it cause it was working. I would assume from this that people had sudden and quite severe flares when stopping the plaquenil. One of the reasons that physicians feel comfortable in prescribing Plaquenil is its low risk to benefit ratio.
